by GIAOCHINO ROSSINI - libretto by CESARE STERBINI
OPERA COLUMBUS, 2020
directed by MARY BIRNBAUM - costume design by AMANDA SEYMOUR - lighting design by ANSHUMAN BHATIA
Sung in English and transplanted to the town of Seville, Florida in the 1990s, this production takes place in world of boy bands, mixtapes, plastic pool toys, and Memphis-style design. The production premiered on Valentine's Day, and featured pre-show and intermission entertainment such as a glitter beard contest, a T-shirt cannon, and a Dream Date dinner service for select audience members. Bartolo's house, inspired by a classic Polly Pocket toy, becomes a colorful jewel box setting for Rossini's classic comedy of teenage dreams and hijinks.
